Alright it’s a 53 year old outdated movie and all the actors have long gone on to their next starting roles but I still like it. I mean who didn’t like Audrey Hepburn calling out, “Cat! Cat! Oh Cat!” in her soft gentle voice. Oh alright, they didn’t have to cast Mickey Rooney as the Japanese landlord with stereotypical buck teeth and Coke bottle glasses but it was the early 60’s and we were still cranky at the Japanese over The War.
Today’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s would have been filled with explicit talk and common denominator humor; back then Holly Golightly would be slipped 50 dollars to go to the powder room rather than scenes of her, well you know. Times were much simpler in the early 60’s. Pay phones cost a dime and taxi rides were 4 dollars to La Guardia Airport from New York City. It was a time when Western Union was the text message system of the world and people smoked cartons of cigarettes daily but those days are done.
When I say the actors have gone on to their next role I mean, they are all pushing up daisies. I’m sure Cat was the first one to go, Toonce always liked his or her cat acting skills… Buddy Epson will always be known for being Jed Clampett of The Beverly Hillbillies. Here’s to all of you who added a bit of light to our collective consciousness! This too will pass
